Though this is worrying, it’s worth noting that what this festival condones and promotes is not what Halloween needs to be about. It’s our celebration, and I’m glad Pope Gregory moved it to collide with old pagan festivals so that we can remember the glorious fate of the dead who die in Christ!
Unfortunately, there is a growing demise if all Christian faiths, whereby marxist liberal ways are taking over. I'm in America, I see podcasts if gay pastors coming out to their congregation in drag, a female Presbyterian pastor using her pulpit to preach about how Jesus would be there on line in defense if women getting abortions, and that she wears her clerical collar as an abortion escort. One pastor in a church reading lgbt books to children in church. Pope francis, a marxist, is intentionally appointing prigressive cardinals enmass. There are so many videos out there. All of western civilization has been hijacked by sick insanity. All churches need to put there foot down against this, instead of being fearful if bring canceled.
Not to sound too cynical but does Ireland have a culture anymore. All I see is pagan woke crap most of the time. Yes a bit over the top but I use to admire the Irish for their spirit, intellect and faith....now, I observe a "cowed" society of wimps. Thoughts?
Of course I am not! I am sorry if it sounded like I was saying that, I just was expressing a little bit of my pride in being Irish. I was trying to explain that our culture hasn’t gone completely - these things have been happily (though not perfectly) wed with Catholicism for centuries here. In fact, Irish people still have a hard time figuring out old traditions without Christ. I think this is why, on the one hand, you have these radical pagan festivals (people trying to assert a new ideology to contradict the old one) and, on the other, churches are still packed for things like Midnight Mass on Christmas or Good Friday.
It’s also worth noting that Puca is getting more popular, but is still fringe.
So no I’m not happy the way Irish people are turning away from God in such vast numbers. But the efforts of secular/pagan-minded individuals/groups can’t uproot Ireland’s Catholic roots as easily as they would like to believe.
Absolutely nothing wrong with having pride in one’s her heritage. I am part Irish myself…but am and AMERICAN. The thing is that Catholic Ireland was the culture that civilized most of the world after the fall of Rome. Unfortunately, as a result of the assorted scandals associated with evil clerics…along with the desire to embrace the EU (suckers!)…Ireland has lost something. The loss of the connection to Christ will hurt Ireland in the long run … so I advise them to get back too their authentic roots. Besides, who wants to be a Druid….these pagans really sucked (just study them and you’ll see). In any event, such a conversation could fill up many volumes… so I’ll end here. Pax
Yes it’s true that we will suffer a great deal for cutting ourselves off from the source. It’s very sad actually. Funny what you said about the EU, I know a lot of people who would agree with you!!! And yes druids… very little can be said of them that is good. I wonder how many of them were converted? Or did they just die off? Please God the Church in Ireland will rediscover the beauty of our Catholic roots and so renew this land. And heal it for future generations to enjoy.
Part of St Patrick's mission was to drive the Druid religion out of Ireland. And yes I hope Ireland returns to Catholic prominence. You do realize- that it was the Irish missionaries that civilized much of the western world. My take is that Ireland has a lack of confidence and just wants to go along to get along. Total dereliction of duty if you ask me. I pray it comes back because the Irish (and Scotts - same people ) are a force to be reckoned with. Pax
So yes we do thank God! But you aren’t completely wrong in your observation. Tonnes of Irish people from the top to the bottom are often happy to go with the flow, and just follow the latest trend (lots of people have had theories as to why we Irish tend to this. But hey, at least we have milk in our tea!!!).
The solidarity of parish communities, the respect for the dead, the willingness to abandon schedules for idle conversation over a cuppa, the love of a good music session with stories and dancing to boot, and lots of other things are still very much part of life in Ireland. I wouldn’t live anywhere else for the world!
Faith has been under attack for years. Our society have moved so far backwards that I honestly don't know if we can make a comeback. There is even contempt between the various Christian faiths against Catholics, which I don't understand. I joined the Church Easter past but have heard various 'religious' persons make hateful comments towards Catholics. In a time when all Christians should unite to fight back against the faith hating, child hating and western civilization hating leftist ideology, even this isn't happening. We even have a leftist pope. The world is in serious trouble.
Well the good news is that Our Lord is in control and we win in the end. The only problem is what happens in the interim. Unfortunately for us the wrath of God is real and if you look at Church prophesy it may be coming and will be "biblical" in scope. All we can do is try to help, protect, influence those within our immediate circle - while remaining God centric. If everyone did this....the world would right itself. Pax

Sorry for typos

But do please pray for us (see above article)!
So let me understand this….for a so called priest you are ok with Ireland ignoring/abandoning its RC roots? Care to explain?
New to substack..I meant to reply to you but created a new comment.
