Exclusive +Strickland interview: US bishops should respond to Fr James Martin's scandal

Bishop Strickland's protest against Fr James Martin's recent controversy was met with silence from his fellow US bishops.

(PerMariam) — On November 12, Tyler’s emeritus Bishop Joseph Strickland took the floor of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Baltimore and urged them to take action regarding he latest controversy involving Fr. James Martin S.J.

Martin had overseen the Confirmation of an openly homosexual man, whose “husband” was the Confirmation sponsor. During the ensuing Mass the two men both received Holy Communion. (Video of the event here)

Footage of the incident has been seen by millions online, and Strickland’s striking intervention came as a result of seeing that footage himself. (Click on image to be taken to a video of his address)

Speaking to Per Mariam on November 14, the bishop expanded on his reasons for doing so and lamented the silence of the U.S. bishops in the face of ongoing scandal.
