Catholic bishops lead act of reparation for LGBT Vatican Jubilee
The four bishops led Catholics in an international act of prayerful reparation and sorrow for a recent controversial Vatican event.
(PerMariam) — Catholic bishops have today led an international act of reparation for the LGBT Jubilee pilgrimage which saw activists carry a rainbow cross through St. Peter’s Basilica last month.
Leading participants both in person at the Catholic Identity Conference (CIC) and many more online on Saturday, four Catholic prelates jointly prayed an act of reparation following an event which caused international scandal at the Vatican in September.
The bishops began:
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Mercifully look upon us poor sinners, who offer to Your Divine Majesty this act of reparation for the abomination perpetrated in the Eternal City, during this Jubilee Year, by those who, “turning the grace of our Lord God into sensuality” (Jude 4), used — alas, with the permission of the authorities of the Holy See — the Church of the Gesù, the Holy Door and St. Peter’s Basilica as a platform to proudly advocate for the legitimization of sodomy, fornication and other sins against the Sixth Commandment of Your Holy Law. They dared, moreover, to display “the appearance of godliness, yet denying its power” (2 Tim. 3:5).

Led by Bishop Schneider, the four bishops were:
Bishop Athanasius Schneider, auxiliary of the diocese of Astana.
Bishop Robert Mutsaerts, auxiliary of the Diocese of Hertogenbosch.
Bishop Joseph Strickland, emeritus of the Diocese of Tyler.
Bishop Marian Eleganti, emeritus auxiliary of the Diocese of Chur.
Concluding their act of reparation, the bishops stated:
O Lord, look mercifully upon Your afflicted Church which has been publicly humiliated through the abuse of the Jubilee Year, the Holy Door and St. Peters’ Basilica. Graciously receive this our act of reparation, and look upon the tears of the Immaculate and Sorrowful Virgin Mary, the blood of innumerable martyrs, especially those martyred for chastity, and upon the sufferings, sighs, prayers and acts of loving reparation of so many Catholic souls. O Lord, make Your Church to shine again, Catholic, free, and chaste.
The event in question prompting their response was the LGBT specific Jubilee pilgrimage at St. Peter’s Basilica on September 6. Included in the Vatican’s official Jubilee calendar of events for many months, the event was organized by an Italian LGBT group Tenda di Gionata (TDG), which is one of the most prominent pro-LGBT “Catholic” organizations in Italy.
Comprised of many international LGBT groups from across the globe – such as New Ways Ministry and Fr James Martin’s group Outreach – it saw hundreds of individuals take part in a weekend-long schedule.
The highlight of the weekend was the procession into St. Peter’s Square on September 6, during which LGBt activists held aloft rainbow-colored crosses and wore clothes bearing slogans such as “f**k the rules.”

The LGBT Jubilee pilgrimage garnered widespread consternation amongst Catholics, both clerical and lay.
Cardinal Gerhard Müller – a former prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Fatih – told Vaticanist Diane Montagna that “they desecrated the temple of God, ‘making the Father’s house a marketplace.’”
“They abused the Catholic faith and the grace and symbol of the Holy Door—which is Jesus Christ—for the sake of propaganda, while living in open contradiction to the will of the Creator,” Müller added.
Inserted into the Vatican’s calendar in December 2024, the LGBT Jubilee event was briefly removed from the Jubilee calendar website, though an archived version was visible. At the same time, an official from the Dicastery for Evangelization – the Vatican office chiefly responsible for the 2025 Jubilee – told media outlets on December 11 that the LGBT pilgrimage had never been listed online – something readily proved false by the archived internet entry.
After significant outrage from the LGBT groups involved the entry was re-inserted into the listing once again.
Organizers previously attested to the directly involvement of Pope Francis in ensuring the event came to fruition: “Pope Francis’s support for the initiative was vital.”
The Vatican did not give any comment on the event’s controversy, with various offices in the Curia seeking to pass off responsibility to each other for the scandal.
Indeed, the LGBT Jubilee participants had been reportedly told not to bear slogans, yet this rule was clearly not enforced.
“While 2025’s event may seem like a small step, when compared with how the Vatican reacted to the presence of gay people in Rome during 2000, we can see what a sea change has taken place in terms of responding to LGBTQ+ people,” wrote Francis DeBernardo – executive director of LGBT group New Ways Ministry – prior to Pope Francis’ death. New Ways Ministry is a group which, though in receipt of support from Pope Francis, remains officially condemned by the Church.
The Pope’s future actions regarding the LGBT lobby within the Catholic Church continues to be much under scrutiny as the first year of his pontificate continues, with a notable tell being what free reign will be given to Fr. James Martin, who has emerged as arguably the most prominent name linked to promoting the LGBT cause in the Church.
Pope Leo reportedly gave direct approval to an Italian bishop to celebrate Mass for the LGBT group on the evening prior to their now-infamous procession into the Vatican. Bishop Francesco Savino, a vice president of the Italian bishops conference, stated that Leo said “with a great tenderness, with a sweetness, he said, ‘Go and celebrate the Jubilee organized by Tenda di Gionata and the other groups that work with brothers and sisters,’ who are all of you.”
In contrast to Fr. Martin’s style, under the leadership of Cardinal Ratzinger in 1986 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) issued a document instructing bishops on the pastoral care of homosexual persons. The CDF admonished bishops to ensure they, and any “pastoral programme” in the diocese are “clearly stating that homosexual activity is immoral.”
The CDF added:
But we wish to make it clear that departure from the Church’s teaching, or silence about it, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. Only what is true can ultimately be pastoral. The neglect of the Church’s position prevents homosexual men and women from receiving the care they need and deserve.
Therefore special concern and pastoral attention should be directed toward those who have this condition, lest they be led to believe that the living out of this orientation in homosexual activity is a morally acceptable option. It is not.
Act of Reparation for the Desecration of the Jubilee Year and St Peter’s Basilica by “LGBTQ+” Activists
Sorrowfully we cry out to You with the words of the psalm: “O Lord, remember Your congregation, which You have possessed from the beginning. The sceptre of Your inheritance which You have redeemed: Mount Sion in which You have dwelt. Lift up our hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy has done wickedly in the sanctuary. And they that hate You have made their boasts, in the midst of Your solemnity. They have set up their ensigns for signs. They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name on the earth. How long, O God, shall the enemy reproach: is the adversary to provoke Your name for ever? Let not the humble be turned away with confusion: the poor and needy shall praise Your name” (Ps. 73:2-4.7.10.21).
Though poor sinners, we offer, in union with the acts of atonement of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, of all the Saints and of all pious faithful on earth, the satisfaction You once made to Your Eternal Father on the Cross, and which You continue to renew daily on our altars, in reparation and atonement:
For those who abused the Jubilee Year, the Church of the Gesù, the Holy Door and St. Peter’s Basilica, by turning them into a platform for advocating the legitimization of sodomy, fornication and other sins against the Sixth Commandment of Your Holy Law! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For the complicity of the authorities of the Holy See in such an abomination! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For ideological lobby groups, within and outside the Church, who advocate the legitimization of sodomy, fornication and other sins against the Sixth Commandment of Your Holy Law! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For the brazen call by cardinals, bishops, priests and laity to change the immutable teaching of the Catholic Church, expressed in the Catechism, so as to legitimize sodomy, fornication and other sins against the Sixth Commandment of Your Holy Law! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For members of the clergy who, abusing their office and perverting the true aim of pastoral care, support the legitimization of sodomy, fornication and other sins against the Sixth Commandment of Your Holy Law! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For members of the clergy who, under the pretext of pastoral accompaniment, deny people the perennial truth of Your Holy Commandments and avoid calling those who err to salutary penance, confirming them instead in error and vice, and exposing them to the danger of eternal damnation! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For members of the clergy who encourage those openly living the “LGBTQ+” lifestyle to receive Holy Communion, thereby leading them to eat and drink judgement upon themselves (cf. 1 Cor. 11:29).
For all those who, proud and unrepentant, offend You by a lifestyle of sodomy and fornication! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For all those who denigrate the goodness and beauty of the creation of marriage, and of the two sexes—male and female—by advocating the moral and legal legitimization of same-sex unions and so-called same-sex marriage! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For all those who blaspheme You by asserting that You created same-sex attraction! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
For members of the clergy who blaspheme Your Holy Name, Your Commandments and the divinely instituted sacrament of marriage by imparting blessings to same-sex couples and other couples in extramarital unions! Lord, have mercy! Christ, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
O Lord, we also beg You mercifully to grant Your light and the grace of conversion to our poor brothers and sisters who, blinded by error and enslaved by vice, endeavour to impose their own will on Your Holy Will, by impudently demanding that the Church change the immutable and divinely revealed truths of Your Commandments. Grant, we beseech You, that they be led back to the embrace of Your Holy Will.
O Lord, pour out Your Spirit of truth and compunction upon the Shepherds and sheep of Your pasture, so that they might fear You, walk in all Your ways and love You (cf. Deut. 10:12). May the world come to grasp, in the words and deeds of Your Church, Your liberating truth: “How beautiful is the chaste generation with glory: for the memory thereof is immortal, because it is known both with God and with men” (Wis. 4:1).
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us! Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us! Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us! Amen.
